Main topic

The Eminence in Shadow is a Japanese light novel series written and illustrated by Daisuke Aizawa. In May 2018, it began serialisation on the user-generated novel publishing website Shsetsuka ni Nar. It was later bought out by Enterbrain, who has been publishing the series since November 2018.

Character details

He had always wanted to be a shadowbroker, or someone who works in the shadows, since he was a child. He worked out his body, doing practically everything in the world, until one day, during one of his training sessions, he came across magic. This, however, was not magic, but rather the headlights of a car. As a result, he died. Even after reincarnating, the boy Cid Kagenou, now the son of a noble, wished to realise his ambitions. After rescuing a girl, Cid concocts an elaborate story about how he was the leader of an ancient organisation sworn to fight the Cult of Diabolos in order to prevent Diabolos from being resurrected.Cid builds his organisation, the Shadow Garden, after the girl swears her allegiance to him. He has no idea that his eighth-grade syndrome-induced story has a real-world basis.

Eminence in shadow review

This anime took me by surprise. I had no intention of watching it, but I was pleasantly surprised when I did. The first few episodes were mediocre at best, but by episode three, I was hooked. Unlike most of my previous encounters with similar anime, the episodes just kept getting better and better.

Make sure to watch at least the first three episodes, and watch them in high quality, preferably from HIDIVE. You will not be disappointed if you do. The most difficult challenge will be to pace yourself because this series is very easy to binge.

Another advantage I discovered was that the episodes were very re-watchable. I've watched it twice since the first time and thoroughly enjoyed it both times.
